Ingredients

Apples
  • 3 apples Large; peeled, cored, and sliced into wedges.
Cinnamon sugar coating
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter Melted.
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp vanilla extract
Serving
  • 1 vanilla ice cream For serving.
  • 1 caramel sauce For serving.

Equipment

  • 1 air fryer

Method

Toss and coat
  1. Toss apple wedges with melted unsalted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract until evenly coated, with the slices looking glossy and speckled from the spices.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F so it’s hot and ready for even caramelization.
Air-fry
  1. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer in the basket at 375°F so they brown rather than steam.
  2. Air-fry for 10-12 minutes at 375°F, shaking the basket halfway, until caramelized and tender with slightly crisp edges.
  3. If needed, work in batches and repeat the single-layer arrangement and cook time to keep the edges crisp.
Serve
  1. Serve the apples warm over vanilla ice cream and drizzle with caramel sauce so each bite gets a caramel-sweet finish.

Notes

For best browning, keep the apple slices in a single layer and shake halfway so they cook evenly. Store leftovers in the refrigerator up to 3 days; reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes. Freezing isn’t recommended for the best texture. For a dairy-free swap, use vegan butter and serve with dairy-free vanilla ice cream.
